NEW AIR NEW ZEALAND UNIFORM

New uniform
Air New Zealand has engaged Trelise Cooper, one of New Zealand's leading fashion designers, to assist in the design of our new uniform.
Trelise was chosen following a hotly contested selection process to appoint a designer who could help create a functional and fashionable uniform for Air New Zealand's pilots, cabin crew, airport and frontline staff to wear.
The introduction of a new uniform will coincide with the new look of the interiors on our long haul product. Feedback from Air New Zealanders has been that they wanted a stronger use of colours, a more formal approach to the uniform and different options to suit all body shapes.
It was important that we found the right designer, who would listen to Air New Zealanders and take their needs into account in designing a uniform they will be proud to wear.
The uniform is contemporary and based on New Zealand themes with a co-ordinated look, while still allowing Air New Zealanders to make individual choices to suit their body type and personality.
For everyone the uniform will be more tailored - reflective of Air New Zealand's status as a premium carrier.
The collection has varying levels of formality, especially for cabin crew and one that provides a more formal look when travelling through airports and welcoming customers onboard, changing to a more casual and friendly style once in the air.
The final design for the uniform is currently being completed after continued staff feedback, fabric selection, testing and wearer trials. Production will follow, with an expected 90,000 garments to create a uniform that will be worn by more than 5,000 staff.
Following the consultation and design process, the new uniform will be launched mid-2011 and has involved many Air New Zealanders from across the business to ensure the uniform addresses the many climates across the world and working conditions that we operate in.
